Ukraine and Moldova to Resume Railway Connection on Berezino-Bessarabka Section
The heads of the infrastructure ministries of Ukraine and Moldova, Oleksandr Kubrakov and Andrei Spînu, signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday. It should resume the railway connection from Berezina in Odessa to Moldovan Bessarabka.
"This autumn, 25 years later, the Bessarabka-Berezino railway will start working again," stated the Ministry of Infrastructure of Moldova, reports NewsMaker.
They added that Moldova would be able to export and import goods across the port of Izmail on the Danube, reducing delays in the port of Reni. And Ukraine will be able to ship goods to Moldova and EU countries.
"The restoration of the Berezino-Bessarabka railway will turn our city into an international logistics hub, through which the ports of Yuzhny, Odesa, Chernomorsk, Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Izmail, Reni, Giurgiulești, Galați, Brăila, and Constanța will be connected."
According to the memorandum, Moldova and Ukraine intend to rebuild the 23 km long section by autumn. Most of it is located in Ukraine and only 1.2 km in Moldova.
