No Threats EU Candidate Status to Be Deprived or Suspended - Ukraine's representative to the EU
Ukraine's representative to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, said there were no threats from the European Union that Ukraine's EU candidate status for EU membership could be deprived or suspended.
"Our task is to meet the prescribed requirements to move towards the start of negotiations. There are no threats this status may be deprived or suspended in any way," Interfax-Ukraine cites Chentsov.
He emphasizes the European Commission's opinion and the wording of the European Council's decision clearly shows that Ukraine faces several requirements to move to the next stage. The European Commission will report to the EU Council on implementing these demands.
"All the requirements we have received are clear. The war is a factor that may complicate or delay the implementation of certain requirements, in particular, the reform of the SBU or the police reform. During the war, we will have to focus on fighting crime.
The SBU plays a significant role in overcoming aggression, sabotage, and counterintelligence. So we have to take our reality into account. We will have a dialogue with our colleagues in Brussels to have constructive approaches. They should focus their efforts on helping Ukraine implement or prepare the reforms even in war," - Chentsov explained.
European Union leaders granted Ukraine and Moldova EU candidate status at the summit in Brussels on June 23.
Meanwhile, the EU demands reforms with the candidacy. Find out more in the article Ukraine Be Deprived of EU Candidacy without Reforms: Details of the Commission Opinion.
