Zelensky: Ukraine's EU Membership to Decide the Future of Europe

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky hopes that the issue of EU candidate status will be resolved for Ukraine in the upcoming weeks.

He said that in his daily appeal writes "European Pravda."

"I believe this decision will be not only about Ukraine but also about the whole European project - whether it has a future as a really strong union," Zelensky said.

He added that he discussed the EU candidate status for Ukraine with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

"This is a crucial point. We are waiting for the European Union's decision on our application in the upcoming weeks," the president added.

The Prime Minister of Ireland Micheál Martin believes that Ukraine should join the EU as soon as possible.

As previously reported, Ukraine might receive only potential candidate status. It has raised objections in Kyiv, including an unprecedented appeal by Ukrainian NGOs to the EU.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has called to create a "European preparatory space" that will allow Ukraine and Moldova to approximate the standards of the EU.
