EU Council Agreed on Seventh Sanctions Package on Russia
On Monday, the EU ministers of foreign affairs have agreed on a new sanctions package on Russia. There are no additional measures on energy.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, the new sanctions package mainly clarifies the previous sanctions on Russia. The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry separately emphasized that there are no sanctions against Russia's energy sector - for example, against Gazprombank, writes Origo.
"We have made it very clear: if Gazprombank is included in the sanctions list, Hungary will not support it. Therefore the proposed sanctions do not apply to Gazprombank, as there are no restrictions on the transportation of energy carriers," Szijjártó added.
In addition, he confirmed a ban on importing Russian gold, which represents the country's biggest non-energy export, and increased regulation of trade in so-called dual-use goods, further restrictions on public procurement and financial services.
48 individuals and nine legal entities will also be added to the sanctions list - among them the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, the heads of federal subjects of the Russian Federation, and the top management of Sberbank.
The European Union has already adopted six sanction packages on Russia because it deliberately violated international law when it invaded Ukraine.
