EU Confirmed to Double Electricity Imports from Ukraine
On Wednesday, the European association for the cooperation of transmission system operators (ENTSO-E) confirmed its intention to double the electricity imports from Ukraine, which the European Commission had announced the day before.
This was stated at the meeting of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Рalushchenko, with ENTSO-E Chair of the Board, Joachim Vanzetta, and ENTSO-E secretary general, Sonia Twohig, in Brussels. The press office of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports.
Halushchenko emphasized that based on the EU decision to cut Russian gas consumption by 15%, Ukraine can help Europe compensate by increasing its electricity export.
The management of ENTSO-E confirmed its plans to increase Ukrainian electricity imports shortly. Already this week, its volume will double. The operator emphasizes they will grow the volumes gradually, ensuring the stability of the power system.
In March, Ukraine sent a request to join the European energy system ENTSO-E, and in early June, it received the right to export its energy to Europe. Ukraine started electricity trading with Romania in June and Slovakia in July.
