World Must Bring Russian War Criminals to Justice - Irish Prime Minister in Kyiv
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, during his first visit to Kyiv, promised Ukraine to support the investigation of the crimes committed by the Russian military, condemned the war of the Russian Federation in general, and also spoke in favor of Ukraine's future in the EU.
Micheál Martin shared his impressions after the trip to Borodyanka, Bucha, and Irpin, devastated by the war. He called the Russian war "a violation of international law and everything Ireland stands for."
"The use of terror against the civilian population is a war crime. And those responsible for these actions, who gave these instructions, will definitely be held accountable. That is why we have allocated additional funding for the international court to ensure further work on these crimes," the Administration of the President of Ukraine quotes the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also visited the memorial to the Holodomor victims. He mentioned Ireland had a very similar experience. In this context, he condemned Russia's blockade of grain export from Ukraine across the Black Sea, which created a food crisis worldwide.
"We do not accept at all the situation when food can be used as a tool of war. We will do everything possible to ensure that people are not affected by attempts to turn food into weapons," he said.
Martin noted that, despite the geographical distance between Ireland and Ukraine, the Irish now admire Ukrainians, and in every town, you can see Ukrainian flags as a gesture of solidarity.
According to him, Ireland supports Ukraine's future in the EU and promised support for further European integration.
"We have always said that Ukraine's place is in the EU, that you are fighting and defending the values of the European Union and the whole of Europe," Martin said.
