EU Supports Demilitarisation of ZNPP and Calls on Russia to Withdraw Its Forces
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has joined the calls to demilitarize the zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
"Zaporizhzhia facility must not be used as part of any military operation. I support call for demilitarisation of area starting with full withdrawal of Russian forces, and urge IAEA to visit. Russia must immediately hand back full control to rightful sovereign owner Ukraine," Borrell wrote on Twitter.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued on Thursday a dire warning over ZNPP, calling for withdrawing any military personnel and equipment from the plant and refraining from any further deployment of forces or equipment to the site.
Meanwhile, Russia rejected UN calls to create a demilitarised zone around the biggest in Europe nuclear power plant.
On August 6, the EU condemned Russia's military activities around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
