Latvia Launches Crowdfunding to Buy Bayraktar for Ukraine
Latvia has launched a fundraising campaign to buy a Turkish Bayraktar drone to hand it over to the Ukrainian Armed forces.
Crowdfunding is placed on Ziedot.lv. One of the initiators is musician Ralfs Eilands has announced that every resident of Latvia has the opportunity to prove their support for Ukraine. They would also have a chance with the help of Ukrainians "to say hello to the Russian occupiers."
The initiative was launched on Tuesday, August 16. In the first hours, 1,788 people donated over 58,000 euros. The target is 5 million euros, reports Delfi.
Latvia is not the first country whose citizens have decided to express their support for Ukraine by raising funds for a Bayraktar.
Poland, Lithuania, Norway, and Canada have already taken part in this initiative.
On May 25, Lithuanian journalist Andrius Tapinas launched a fundraising campaign for a Bayraktar for Ukraine. Lithuanians raised the needed amount for three days.
After that, the Turkish manufacturing company said that it was touched by the solidarity of Lithuanians and therefore donated a drone. The raised funds were directed to other needs of Ukraine.
After that, similar fundraising campaigns for Bayraktar were initiated in Norway, Poland, and Canada.
