Latvians donated 300,000 euros on the first day of the fundraising campaign for a Bayraktar for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Today is the second day of the campaign, and we have already raised 300,000 euros," Ukrinform quotes Eilands.

He said this initiative was born after his talks with the ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia and other Ukrainian diplomats.

"I asked what we could do to help Ukraine. They said that it would be best to buy a Bayraktar. We discussed buying other types of weaponry. They explained it would be very difficult for a charitable foundation to buy any, even with enough funds. This option is the most realistic," the musician noted.

According to him, they will transfer the raised funds to the Ministry of Defence of Latvia, which will purchase a "Bayraktar" from Turkey and hand it over to Ukraine.

"In times of war, people make songs about Bayraktar and videos of how they operate. It is more affordable than other types of weaponry, and ordinary people can do it, which is why it is so popular," he believes.

Latvia launched a fundraising campaign to buy a Turkish Bayraktar drone to hand it over to the Ukrainian Armed forces on August 16.

On May 25, Lithuanian journalist Andrius Tapinas launched a fundraising campaign for a Bayraktar for Ukraine. Lithuanians raised the needed amount for three days.

After that, the Turkish manufacturing company said that it was touched by the solidarity of Lithuanians and therefore donated a drone. The raised funds were directed to other needs of Ukraine.

After that, similar fundraising campaigns for Bayraktar were initiated in Norway, Poland, and Canada.
