Ukrainian Prime Minister to Visit Berlin in Early September and Meet With Steinmeier
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal will arrive in Germany on September 4 and meet with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The meeting will take place at the residence of the President of Germany, Bellevue Palace. There is still no information about Shmyhal's other meetings in Berlin, reports Bild with reference to information from the president's office.
In the spring, Ukraine refused a visit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, worsening the relations with Berlin. Because of Steinmeier's past friendship with Russia, Ukraine had also made clear that it expected German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rather than the president.
Olaf Scholz admitted that he did not want to go to Kyiv until before President Steinmeier, hinting at Ukraine's turn to take steps to resolve this situation.
Later, Zelensky had a conversation with Steinmeier, in which he invited the German president and chancellor to Kyiv. Scholz's visit took place in June.
In late July, President Volodymyr Zelensky invited Steinmeier to Kyiv for the second time.
