Zelensky Approves Transport Visa-Free Regime with the EU
President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on freight transportation by road - the so-called "transport visa-free."
The decree on September 16 was published on the website of the head of state.
"To approve the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on freight transportation by road, concluded on June 29, 2022, in the city of Lyon," the decree reads.
On June 29, Ukraine and the European Union signed the agreement on freight transportation by road transport, also known as "transport visa-free."
The agreement replaces the existing bilateral transport agreement between the Member States and Ukraine. It facilitates the use of alternative transport by road for operators as bilateral operations and transit become liberalised.
It eliminates the need for Ukrainian carriers to obtain appropriate bilateral and transit transportation permits to the EU states.
The agreement also simplifies the recognition of driver's licenses. From now on, Ukraine and the EU exempt holders of driver's licenses issued by one of the parties from the requirement to have an international driver's license.
The agreement is valid for one year with the possibility of an extension. It temporarily came into effect on the day of signing.
Moldova signed a similar document with the EU.
