Friday, 9 September 2022

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg has assured Ukraine of further support despite the economic pressure caused by the Russian invasion.

"The war in Ukraine is entering a critical phase. Ukrainian forces have been able to stall Moscow's offensive in the Donbas, strike back behind Russian lines and retake territory. Just in the last few days, we have seen further progress both in the south in Kherson and the east in the Kharkiv region," Stoltenberg stated at a press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels.

He also noted that unity and solidarity would be tested in the coming months.

"With pressure on energy supplies and the soaring cost of living caused by Russia's war. But the price we pay is measured in money. While the price the Ukrainians are paying is measured in lives. Lost lives, every day," he continued.

Stoltenberg emphasized again that NATO is sending an unmistakable message to Moscow about its readiness to protect and defend every inch of Allied territory.

As previously reported, on September 8, the U.S. announced a new military aid package to Ukraine to counter the Russian invasion.
