Office of President of Ukraine Calls Another Ramstein Meeting Historical and Hints at Agreements about Air Defence Systems

Wednesday, 12 October 2022

Andrii Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has called another meeting of the Ramstein format "historical", hinting that there is a solution for strengthening Ukraine's air defence.

"Another Ramstein. It is historic, because decisions are made to close the Ukrainian sky. Strengthening the Ukrainian air and MDS is what we need. We are in constant dialogue with our allies. I've discussed the issue of modern anti aircraft and anti missile systems for Ukraine with Jake Sullivan [National Security Advisor of the USA – ed.]," Yermak wrote on Twitter.

At the opening of the meeting, US Defence Minister Lloyd Austin said that Ukrainian troops changed the dynamics of the war with the support of weapons provided by the West.

In addition to the meeting of the group in the Rammstein format, a meeting of defence ministers of NATO countries will also be held in Brussels. According to Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, strengthening Ukraine's air defence will be the top priority of the meeting.

On the morning of 12 October, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine confirmed that Ukraine had received its first IRIS-T air defence system from Germany as well as four more HIMARS systems from the USA.
