New British Prime Minister's Visit to Ukraine Already Being Prepared – Ambassador

Friday, 28 October 2022

Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine's ambassador to the UK, has said that Kyiv is currently preparing to host a visit by Rishi Sunak, the new British Prime Minister.

The ambassador recalled that the first world leader whom the British Prime Minister called after being appointed was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I know that it was a very good conversation, during which, in particular, we agreed that Rishi Sunak will pay a visit to Ukraine. When exactly will this happen? We are already working on it with our colleagues from the UK government," Prystaiko said this on the 24/7 news broadcast on Friday.

During the telephone conversation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed Sunak's appointment as the head of the UK government and expressed his readiness to continue strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

As previously reported, King Charles III asked former Chancellor Rishi Sunak to form a government on 25 October.

Sunak replaced Liz Truss, who announced her resignation last week after six weeks in office.

Sunak has been in politics since 2015, and before being appointed prime minister, he was a member of the Environment Select Committee as well as working at the Ministry of Housing and the Treasury.
