1,000 Days since UIA Catastrophe: Iran Urged Again to Fulfill Its Obligations
The International Coordination and Response Group to support families of victims of PS752, represented by the UK, Canada, Ukraine, and Sweden, called on Iran on Monday to fulfill its international legal obligations.
"We, Ministers representing Canada, Sweden, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, stand with the grieving families on this solemn occasion and honour the memories of the victims killed on board Flight PS752. We renew our demand that Iran fulfills its international legal obligations and ensures transparency and justice for its actions," the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Coordination and Response Groups reads.
It also adds that the legal work on the investigation of the UIA disaster will be continued by the legal teams of the member states of the Coordination Group after the contribution of four highly recognized legal experts: Professor Payam Akhavan, Professor Harold Hongju Koh, Ms. Jessica Wells and Sir Michael Wood.
"We continue to stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones of the victims of the downing of Flight PS752," the statement concludes.
Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down minutes after taking off from Tehran, Iran, by an Iranian surface-to-air missile. 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents were among the 176 people killed in this national tragedy. October 4 marks 1,000 days since the tragedy.
In January 2022, Iran responded by rejecting the offer of the International Coordination and Response Group to support families of victims of PS752 to join the compensation negotiations.
