Iran, Which Supplies Russia with Drones, Does Not Recognize Annexation of Ukrainian Territories
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Nasser Kanaani, said on Monday that Tehran advocates observing countries' territorial integrity in the context of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
Responding to a question about Iran's stance on the referendums regarding the annexation of four Ukrainian regions by Russia, Kanaani said that Tehran "stresses the need for fully observing countries' territorial integrity as a fundamental rule of international law and for respecting principles and goals of the UN Charter," as IRNA reports.
Also, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said "his country backs any efforts aimed at peacefully resolving the Ukraine conflict" and urged "to avoid any provocative move, which may stir up the process of reaching peace and stability."
Iran is believed to be on Russia's side in the Ukrainian-Russian war, providing it with political and military support.
In August, Russia received "hundreds" of drones from Iran that could be used in its full-scale invasion of Ukraine even though Washington's called for Tehran not to do so.
After that, the Ukrainian military repeatedly shot down Iranian drones that attacked southern cities.
On September 23, the Ukrainian side decided to strip the ambassador of Iran in Ukraine of accreditation and significantly reduce the embassy's diplomatic staff due to Iran's supply of drones to Russia.
The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, said that Tehran would respond proportionally to the decision of the Ukrainian side.
