Zelenskyy Invited Future Italy's Prime Minister to Ukraine
On Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had his first phone conversation with the leader of the "Brothers of Italy" party, Giorgia Meloni, who won the last parliamentary elections and is highly likely to become Italy's first female prime minister.
As Zelensky noted on his Telegram, the parties "emphasized the need to continue support for Ukraine after the formation of the new Italian government."
"We discussed the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia, in particular the strengthening of the 8th EU sanctions package and the EU visa ban for Russians," the President added.
"Brothers of Italy," in their press release, quoted by Italian Dire, reported that Zelenskyy thanked for the military assistance and "expressed the hope that Meloni will be able to visit Kyiv as soon as possible."
Meloni, in turn, thanked Zelenskyy for congratulating her on winning the elections. She stressed her support for Ukraine and emphasized that Russia's annexation of four Ukrainian regions "does not have any legal or political weight."
Also, the "Brothers of Italy" leader emphasized commitment to "all diplomatic efforts that will contribute to ending the conflict."
A right-wing alliance led by Giorgia Meloni's "Brothers of Italy" party won a clear majority in the next parliament on September 25.
