New "Krasnoilsk" Checkpoint Opens on the Border With Romania
On Thursday, a new checkpoint Krasnoilsk - Vicovu de Sus started operating on the Ukrainian-Romanian border in the Chernivtsi region.
"First time since the restoration of Ukraine's independence, we have built a checkpoint from scratch across the state border. The Krasnoilsk car checkpoint is starting to operate on the Ukrainian-Romanian state border within the Chernivtsi region," Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, reported on Telegram.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă officially opened the new checkpoint.
According to Tymoshenko, the new checkpoint is supposed to relieve the only functioning crossing for cargo vehicles on the Ukrainian-Romanian border — Porubne – Siret. It also provides additional jobs.
"Krasnoilsk" can handle up to 2,000 citizens, 10 buses, and 490 cars daily.
"It will become a full-fledged cargo checkpoint later. We are already discussing conditions for road traffic, including cargo, over 3.5 tons, with Romanian colleagues," Tymoshenko wrote.
In addition, according to Tymoshenko, the international checkpoint "Diakivtsi," also on the border with Romania, is already 85% ready. "By the end of the year, we will complete it," he said.
The building of "Krasnoilsk - Vicovu de Sus" was launched in 2015. It was suspended a year later. The construction stayed frozen for nearly six years.
The government promised in July some measures to reduce queues at the border with Romania.
