British Ambassador Welcomes Liberation of Kherson: We Live and Work Among Heroes

Saturday, 12 November 2022

British Ambassador Melinda Simmons has welcomed the liberation of Kherson from Russian occupation forces.

"Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson. My team and I live and work among heroes," Melinda Simmons wrote on Twitter.

The ambassador also wrote that she had been following events around the liberation of the city the day before. "Have literally not been able to concentrate on much else all day," Simmons tweeted.

Earlier, UK Defence Intelligence had reported that the retreat of Russian troops from Kherson was a public recognition of the difficulties they faced on the west bank of the Dnipro River.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address on 11 November that the first military units had entered Kherson following Russia's decision to withdraw its forces from the west bank of the Dnipro River.

Commenting on the entry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine into Kherson, EU Ambassador Matti Maasikas said Europe was returning to Kherson with Ukrainian liberation.

German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen noted that the liberation of Kherson was a long-awaited victory for Ukraine.
