Ukraine's Ambassador Believes in Possibility of Changing Israel's Position on Military Assistance

Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Ievhen Korniichuk sees "certain preconditions" that Israel might change its position regarding military assistance.

He recalled the parliamentary elections in Israel on Tuesday. According to the preliminary results, the Benjamin Netanyahu-led bloc Likud is in the lead.

"I remind you that during the election campaign, Netanyahu said that he would consider revising Israel's policy regarding the weaponry assistance for Ukraine. Of course, in political language, this does not mean anything specific. However, there are certain preconditions for this position to change. And I want to believe that together we will manage to change it," Korniichuk said in an interview with "Interfax-Ukraine."

According to Korniichuk, votes are still being counted and the final results we will know next week. Once the government has been formed there, Ukraine will start "moving in the directions that interest us, first of all, of course, military-technical cooperation."

"How actively it will continue with the Netanyahu government, if he succeeds in forming it, we will see when the Netanyahu government is formed," Korniichuk noted and emphasised that Ukraine will work with any Israeli political force that will be elected in a legal way.

Since Russia is actively using Iranian drones, Ukraine announced that it would ask Israel for the urgent provision of air defence systems. According to the media, Ukraine is highly interested in obtaining from Israel defence systems, in particular: Iron Beam, Barak-8, Patriot, Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow Interceptor, and Israeli support in training for Ukrainian operators.

At the same time, Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said that Israel would not hand over weapons to Ukraine to counter Russian invasion but could provide an early warning system for approaching missile or drone strikes.
