Johnson Becomes Honourary Citizen of Kyiv

Thursday, 24 November 2022

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was given the title of an honorary citizen of Kyiv.

This was announced by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitali Klitschko.

"The Kyiv City Council approved the decision to confer the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv on Boris Johnson, a great friend of Ukraine. Boris repeatedly visited the Ukrainian capital - both in peace and in the most dramatic time of our struggle against the Russian aggressor. I am certain Johnson will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the UK and world leaders provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine," Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel.

He invited Johnson to Kyiv to present him this honorable award.

After his resignation from the post of prime minister and the resignation of his successor Liz Truss, Boris Johnson refused to participate in the elections for the leader of the British Conservatives.

On August 24, during his visit to Kyiv, Johnson received Ukraine's highest honour for a foreign citizen - the Order of Freedom.
