About 80% Of Citizens Support Ukraine's EU Accession - Survey
The vast majority of Ukrainian citizens support joining the European Union.
The survey was conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the sociological department of the Razumkov Center in cooperation with European Pravda.
79.4% of respondents support Ukraine's EU membership, 7.9% are against this decision and another 12.8% have not decided.
This survey also confirms that Ukraine's NATO accession is considered by the majority of Ukrainian citizens to be the best option for guaranteeing national security after Russian aggression.
The survey was conducted from December 13 to 21, 2022. The sample did not include residents of territories that were not temporarily controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022 and where hostilities did not take place. 2018 respondents were interviewed based on a sample that reproduces the demographic structure of the adult population of these territories in early 2022.
Earlier, the government of Ukraine announced that they have accomplished everything possible to implement the seven requirements of the European Commission. They are needed to assess Kyiv's progress towards EU membership.
Upon Ukraine's request, the EU agreed to early assess the seven requirements, which is supposed to happen in the spring of 2023.
The EU insisted on the first assessment of progress and recommendations in the autumn of 2023. This meant postponing the process of Ukraine's European integration for at least half a year, which would move the official start of accession negotiations until the formation of a new commission.
