Ukraine's MFA Asked Borrell To Impose Sanctions on Russia's Missile Production

Wednesday, 7 December 2022

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that the ninth package of sanctions against Russia, proposed by the European Commission, includes important elements.

"The next EU sanctions package proposed by the EU Commission includes some important elements that Ukraine has long emphasized, including sanctions against more Russian banks and taking more Russian propaganda channels off air," Kuleba stated on Twitter.

"Today, I have also sent a letter to Josep Borrell, proposing to impose stiff sanctions on Russia's missile production and anything used to launch deadly missiles at Ukraine. Russia must be fully deprived of any ability to strike Ukraine's critical civilian infrastructure," he added.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the EU was pressing ahead with a ninth sanctions package on Russia in response to Moscow's attack on Ukraine, in particular, to add almost 200 additional individuals and entities from the Russian Federation.

The European Commission also proposes to impose new export controls and restrictions, particularly for dual-use goods, Russia's access to drones, and restrictions against the Russian energy and mining sector, including a ban on new mining investments in Russia.

The sanction package should be agreed well before the EU summit in Brussels on December 15-16.
