Zelenskyy and Steinmeier Discuss Defence Needs and Peace Formula
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone wtih Germany's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. They have discussed the necessity of increasing defence support for Ukraine and the diplomatic process to implement the Ukrainian peace formula.
"During the meeting in the format of a video conference, we discussed the situation on the frontline, the necessity of increasing defense support for Ukraine, the diplomatic process on the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula," Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram.
Zelenskyy points out that Ukraine appreciates "new defence decisions" taken at the start of this year, as well as the significant support in the humanitarian, financial and defence spheres from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.
He thanked Germany for comprehensive assistance, in particular, for strengthening the army, financial stability, and for sheltering Ukrainians in difficult times.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz officially confirmed the appointment of a new Minister of Defence on Tuesday. Boris Pistorius, the interior minister of Germany’s Lower Saxony state, was announced as Germany’s new Defence Minister.
