West Still Blocks Two Most Needed Types of Weapons, but Will Hand It over Soon - Ukraine's Foreign Minister

Thursday, 19 January 2023

Ukraine has managed to unblock almost all types of weapons by its partners, except fighter jets and long-range missiles.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba stated this at a panel discussion at the Ukrainian House in Davos, Switzerland, Ukrinform reports.

"Yes, it takes time. Yes, we wish it didn't take so long for our partners to decide. At the end of the day, we're getting everything we're asking for, except for two big things that haven't been fundamentally unblocked yet - Western fighter jets and long-range missiles. Everything else is unblocked," said the head of Ukrainian diplomacy.

Kuleba pointed out that nearly all conversations with countries began with refusal when the war broke out, especially regarding the most sophisticated weapons. As an example, he cited Sweden and its decision to provide Ukraine with Archer artillery systems.

The Foreign Minister considers that tank provision will be unblocked soon, too, which required significant efforts of diplomacy and the diaspora.

"We see how things speed up. When we unblock long-range missiles and fighter jets - I am absolutely sure it will happen - our list of the most necessary weapons will be completed," the Minister concluded.

On January 19, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said his government had agreed on a three-part military support package for Ukraine, including "the first decision on starting deliveries of the artillery system Archer to Ukraine."

On Thursday, the Estonian government decided to hand over military assistance to Ukraine worth 113 million euros, which is the largest aid package provided by Estonia.
