Brussels Does Not Confirm Ukraine-EU Summit in Kyiv - Mass Media
The European Union has not yet officially confirmed that the Ukraine-EU summit will take place in Kyiv as announced by the Ukrainian side.
This is reported by DW with reference to an unnamed EU official.
The summit is scheduled for February 3 and will welcome the heads of the European Council and the European Commission, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, as well as Ukrainian leadership.
As reported, Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the phone call with von der Leyen announced the summit in Kyiv. Ms. von der Leyen promised to visit Kyiv.
According to the Association Agreement, the Ukraine-EU summit is an annual event. The previous one, the 23rd summit, took place in October 2021 in Kyiv.
The 2022 summit was planned for December and was supposed to be in Brussels. The Ukrainian side preliminary announced its holding. However, it was decided to postpone the summit to early 2023.
According to the sources of "European Pravda," among the reasons for the postponement was the lack of real results of such a meeting. The EU side had problems until the last moment, even approving the macro-financial aid promised within the G7 framework worth 18 billion euros.
Earlier, the press office of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel Barend Leits, reported that the Ukraine-EU summit would be held in Brussels, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy received his invitation.
