Erdoğan Had a Conversation with Putin
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the war in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone.
According to the statement of the Turkish President's press office, the two leaders discussed Turkish-Russian relations, including energy, regional issues, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the war in Syria.
Erdoğan underlined that the negotiations on the Russian-Ukrainian war were fruitful, naming a deal allowing grain exports from Ukrainian ports, exchanging prisoners, and creating a safe zone around the ZNPP.
Erdoğan also said calls for peace and negotiations should be supported by a unilateral ceasefire and "a vision for a fair solution."
As for the energy crisis, Erdoğan said that the Russian Federation and Türkiye have strengthened and continue strengthening the infrastructure for a natural gas hub in Türkiye. He stated that they are committed to finalising the road map and implementing this project as soon as possible.
Erdoğan last spoke with Zelenskyy on December 11. At that time, it was about Türkiye's humanitarian aid, the "grain deal," the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and the "peace formula."
Erdoğan's press office said the Turkish president had offered Putin to back up calls for peace and talks with a unilateral ceasefire announcement and a "vision of a just solution".
On Tuesday, 3 January, İbrahim Kalın, Turkish presidential advisor, announced Erdoğan's telephone conversations with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
Whether the conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy took place has not been reported yet.
