Poland Reveals How Many Leopard Tanks Ukraine Might Get

Monday, 9 January 2023

Ukraine could receive some German Leopard tanks from Poland.

Jakub Kumoch, head of the President's Office of International Policy, said on Monday on the air of the Zet radio station.

He explained that Poland would participate in this undertaking only as part of a broad coalition of countries that also have Leopards and that the country would provide Kyiv with no more than a few or a dozen of such tanks.

"The issue is under consideration. We are talking about symbolic support, a few, dozen items. This is a broad coalition of countries," said Kumokh.

Kumokh explained that Poland will not do anything on its own, but will work with partners. "How many Leopards will Poland provide? Absolutely not all of them. To say that Poland will provide several hundred units is absurd. Creating an alternative reality," he said.

Poland has more than 240 Leopard tanks, a total of 137 Leopard 2A4 tanks, 105 Leopard 2A5 tanks, and fewer than 10 Leopard 2PL tanks in service.

On Monday, Polish President Andrzej Duda invited Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and government ministers to a meeting at the National Security Bureau, to discuss the current situation regarding the war in Ukraine.

The other day, Morawiecki refused to confirm or deny information that Ukraine had requested German-made Leopard 2 tanks. But he said that he was in talks with President Duda to create a broader coalition of countries that could hand over this modern heavy equipment.
