Bundeswehr Begins Training Ukrainians on Leopard 2
The Bundeswehr, the Armed Forces of Germany, has begun training the Ukrainian troops on the Leopard 2 tanks.
As Tagesschau reports, the spokeswoman of the German Defence Ministry has stated that the training will start at the military training ground in Münster, Lower Saxony. The training will last just six to eight weeks, so that the transfer of tanks is "synchronised" with it.
The federal government approved supplying Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2A6.
In addition, the Ukrainian units are already training on Marder armoured vehicles.
Defence Minister Boris Pistorius expects that sending the tanks to Ukraine will significantly strengthen Ukraine's defence against Russian attackers, as the SPD politician said last Wednesday during a visit to troops in Augustdorf, Westphalia.
On 25 January, the German government approved the decision on supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Leopard 2 main combat tanks.
Moreover, the Federal Security Council of Germany approved supplying Ukraine with 178 Leopard 1 tanks from industrial stock.
