Błaszczak: Leopard Tanks to Go to Ukraine in March
Leopard tanks, which the allies promised to send to Kyiv, will be handed over to Ukraine in March.
Mariusz Błaszczak, Polish Defence Minister, said after the Rammstein meeting in Brussels said on Tuesday, as TVN 24 reports, that even more countries have announced their participation in sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
"Germany is forming a coalition of countries that have Leopard 2A6 tanks. We, Poland, have Leopard 2A4. Norway has joined the specific statements of Canada and Spain today," Błaszczak said.
"We are working to ensure that Finland also hands over such tanks. Today, the Finnish minister said that this decision was almost there," he added.
According to the Minister, "we can say that these tanks will go to Ukraine in March."
He added that Ukrainian servicemen are undergoing training in Poland.
"They will be ready to operate these tanks already in mid March. So later only the redeployment of these troops and support will be carried out," pointed out the head of the Polish Ministry of Defence.
As reported, Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defence, has named the countries that have begun preparations to provide Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine or have made a commitment to do so.
On Tuesday, Bjørn Arild Gram, Norwegian Defence Minister, announced that his country would send eight Leopard 2 tanks and up to four special purpose tanks to Ukraine.
