Allies to Provide Ukraine with Military Equipment Worth 200 Million Pounds from Newly Created International Fund
Ukraine will receive equipment, including tank spares, uncrewed air systems, electronic warfare and air defence, from the first package of multi-million pound funding from the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU).
The British Ministry of Defence states that the first equipment package was agreed by the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. These partners, along with Iceland and Lithuania, have contributed a collective total of more than £520 million to the fund.
The first package will include vital capabilities in the form of artillery ammunition, maritime intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and spare parts for equipment, including Ukraine’s current tanks.
"This equipment package will provide a significant capability boost for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will support their ability to defend their country. The UK led International Fund for Ukraine demonstrates the commitment of the UK and our Allies to ensure Ukraine receives vital military aid necessary to defend against Russia’s illegal invasion," Ben Wallace, UK Defence Secretary.
The first package of IFU support drew bids from both UK and international industry suppliers to meet Ukraine’s lethal and non-lethal equipment provision priorities, with more than 40 countries submitting more than 1,500 proposals across 11 capability areas.
The UK initiated the creation of the fund last August. The UK Defence Secretary announced a flexible fund with a low level of bureaucracy, which will be used to provide military equipment and other support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The fund will ensure a stable flow of funds not only for the purchase of vitally necessary new weapons but also for maintenance and repair of the existing ones, as well as for training to improve the effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield.
