Spain's Prime Minister to Pay Unannounced Ukraine Visit — Media

Wednesday, 22 February 2023

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will pay an unannounced Kyiv visit on Thursday to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As Spanish outlet Okdiario reports, it will be Sánchez's second trip to Ukraine since the full-scale Russian invasion. He came for the first time last year in April.

The trip plan, as confirmed by the sources, is close to the one Sánchez had last time. The Prime Minister and his team will fly from Madrid to the Polish city of Rzeszów on an official plane. In Poland, the government delegation will go to the Ukrainian border.

On Wednesday evening, Sánchez and his team are expected to board a night train that will take them to Kyiv shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Sánchez will arrive in Kyiv after Defence Minister Margarita Robles confirmed had promised to send six Leopard tanks to Ukraine.

It was also reported that Spain would train 55 Ukrainian soldiers on Leopard tanks.
