Spanish Prime Minister Announced up to Ten Leopard 2 Tanks for Ukraine
The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced this Thursday in Kyiv that the batch of Leopard 2 tanks from Spain to Ukraine will increase to 10.
As El Pais reports, Sánchez has confirmed the words Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles that Spain would hand over six tanks to Ukraine, adding that later this number will increase to ten.
"We intend to do this in the coming weeks or months," he explained in a joint speech with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy, in turn, has announced that Spain would join the tank coalition.
"I have been assured today that Spain will hand over Leopard tanks to us. Ukrainians are already learning how to operate them in Spain," he said.
"We strive to synchronise the delivery of tanks with the finalisation of Ukrainian military exercises," Sánchez said in turn.
He also did not rule out that the number of tanks for Ukraine might increase.
"Furthermore, we are ready to send more Leopards at a later stage if necessary," he said.
As reported, during the visit, the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, visited Bucha and Irpin, which suffered from the Russian occupation.
