The war in Ukraine will be the key topic of a meeting between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden in Washington on Friday. 

"I'm comfortable telling you that the war in Ukraine will be a prime topic of discussion. And this will give President Biden yet another chance to thank the Chancellor and the people of Germany for all the support that they have provided to Ukraine. They really have stepped up, and they have evolved the capabilities that they're willing to send to Ukraine as well in a very meaningful way, the Leopard tanks being the most recent example of that," John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, said at a briefing.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will meet US President Joe Biden in Washington on 3 March.

This is Scholz's first visit to the White House since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
