Ukraine's MFA Initiates Sanctions against Romanian Senator Who Called On Annexing Part of Ukraine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine intends to impose sanctions on senator of the Parliament of Romania, Diana Șoșoacă.
Șoșoacă drafted a bill on the southern region of Ukraine to "join Romania."
"A marginal politician is trying to 'restore the cultural identity of the Romanian population' with this step. It is a classic example of Russian revanchism. We strongly condemn the attempt to question the territorial integrity of Ukraine, to undermine the spirit of good neighbourliness between Ukraine and Romania," Oleh Nikolenko, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, wrote on Facebook.
According to the Romanian media, Șoșoacă drafted a bill to denounce the agreement on good neighbourliness and cooperation between Ukraine and Romania.
In the amendments to the bill 129/1997 on the ratification of the document, Șoșoacă suggests that "Romania annexes the historical territories that belonged to it, namely: Northern Bucovina, Herce, Bujak (Cagul, Bolgrad, Izmail), historical Maramures and Snake Island".
Far-right senator Șoșoacă has founded the party S.O.S. and non-partisan in the Parliament of Romania. Previously, she was a member of the right-wing populist AUR party.
Șoșoacă with his initiative publicly supports the statement of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who said last summer that Romania would like to annex territories in Ukraine.
Moreover, Șoșoacă is a good friend of the Russian ambassador in Bucharest. She accepts his invitations every time. During her last visit to the embassy, she went to celebrate the "results of the special operation" in Ukraine.
