Hungary Expands List of Agricultural Products and Grains Banned from Ukraine
The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture has announced that starting April 19, they prohibit 25 agricultural products and grains from Ukraine.
According to Hirado.hu, Hungary, which had already banned the import of Ukrainian grains, has extended this measure to dozens of agricultural products.
In addition to grains, flour, honey, oil, and meat from Ukraine will also be prohibited for sale in Hungary, according to the decree published on Tuesday night. These restrictions will be in effect until June 30 and are explained as measures to protect Hungarian farmers and consumers.
At the same time, Hungary does not prohibit the transit of these products on its territory, meaning that transit shipments are still allowed. However, the relevant authorities will check them at the border and monitor them with electronic devices and patrols. Carriers who violate the rules may be fined, and the penalty may even amount to the total value of the cargo.
Bulgaria recently introduced a temporary ban (Ukr) on the import of food from Ukraine, except for transit goods.
Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have also banned the import of Ukrainian agricultural products recently, while calls for similar measures in Romania (Ukr) are growing due to the harm caused to local farmers by lower prices for Ukrainian products.
On the eve of this announcement, Ukraine agreed with Poland to unblock the transit of its grain.
