Zelenskyy Shared Details of His Phone Call with China's Leader
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed on the phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping the role of Beijing in Ukraine's peaceful initiatives and emphasised the need for support of Ukraine's sovereignty.
"We had an important conversation. Цe did not discuss our future meeting. As for important issues that we discussed, they were primarily related to security. It is very important for us to involve as many countries as possible in our format, our formula for peace, which could then put pressure on Russian to restore peace, to restore our territorial integrity," Zelenskzy said at a press conference in Kyiv.
"We talked about territorial integrity, sovereignty, and all these issues, and we heard respect for all these principles," the president added.
Zelenskzy's phone conversation with the Chinese leader on April 26 was the first since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
After the talks, it was announced that China would send its representative to Ukraine and other countries for consultations on the settlement of the war.
Following the phone conversation between the leaders of Ukraine and China, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reminded that official Beijing failed to condemn the Russian invasion.
