The issue of granting Ukraine a NATO Membership Action Plan is no longer on the agenda.

Commenting on NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's statement about the development of a multi-year support program for Ukraine to help it get closer to NATO, Kuleba explained that it was not about the Membership Action Plan (MAP).

"The issue of the MAP has been removed from the agenda because we have submitted an application. It is about an additional strengthening of the comprehensive assistance package from NATO. It cannot be a substitute for membership, and it cannot be a condition for membership. This is a practical assistance mechanism that NATO wants to make as powerful as possible, and in parallel, there is a process of making political decisions on Ukraine's membership in NATO," said Dmytro Kuleba, Ukrainian Foreign Minister, after a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in Brussels.

Kuleba emphasised that Ukraine definitely expects formalised decisions at the NATO summit in Vilnius.

"These should be decisions that bring Ukraine's membership in NATO closer. We are not looking for decisions that merely state the state of relations. Repeating once again that NATO's doors remain open will not be enough," he added.

Earlier, the media reported that Stoltenberg asked member states to allocate €500 million a year (Ukr) for the Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine, through which it receives non-lethal aid.

On Tuesday, the NATO-Ukraine Commission (Ukr) held its first meeting since 2017, when the education law opposed by Budapest was passed.
