China and France Support Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and "Dialogue" about Ukraine
The leaders of France and China, Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping, following the negotiations in Guangzhou, have published a joint statement in which they condemned the nuclear escalation and called for the restoration of peace in Ukraine.
As reported by "European Pravda" about the available statement, Macron and Xi emphasise their role as permanent members of the UN Security Council and their commitment to resolving differences and disputes "peacefully through dialogue and consultation."
France and China agreed to "strengthen coordination and cooperation to jointly preserve the authority and effectiveness of the arms control and non-proliferation regime, as well as to advance the international arms control process."
"Both sides support all efforts to restore peace in Ukraine based on international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter," the statement reads.
Although the leaders of France and China no longer mention Ukraine, they "oppose armed attacks on nuclear power plants and other peaceful nuclear facilities."
The day before, Macron had called on Beijing to warn Russia about the war in Ukraine. According to French sources, China expressed readiness to work together with France (Ukr) to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine through negotiations.
Cooperation between China and the EU will continue in the coming weeks when the head of the EU foreign policy department, Josep Borrell (Ukr), and the German foreign minister will arrive in Beijing.
