What Happens in Ukraine Matters for China Regarding Taiwan – Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is affecting China's calculations regarding the possibility of invading Taiwan.
"What happens in Europe matters for Asia, and what happens in Asia matters for Europe," Stoltenberg said in an interview with CNN.
According to the NATO Secretary General, "security is global."
"Beijing is watching closely what happens in Ukraine, the price President Putin is paying but also the potential rewards. So what happens in Ukraine actually matters for the calculations Beijing, China's making regarding, for instance, Taiwan," Stoltenberg pointed out.
The United States and its allies are increasingly concerned about the pace of China's military modernisation and believe that the Chinese government wants to have forces capable of invading Taiwan by 2027. Joe Biden previously stated that the US armed forces would defend Taiwan (Ukr) in the event of an invasion by the People's Republic of China.
