Among Countries Friendly to Ukraine Some Helping Russia Circumvent Sanctions – Zelenskyy
Among friendly states to Ukraine, there are those who are helping the Russian Federation circumvent the bans, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"The sanctions have impacted the situation. That's why the number of missiles has decreased. Unfortunately, they have found a way, through some partners who very cleverly help Russia circumvent the bans, to get around those sanctions, one way or another. This includes the sanctions that affect their defence industry," Zelensky in an interview with public broadcasters who are members of Eurovision News, including BBC.
He has underlined the need to continue the sanctions against Russia and make them as strong as possible, as well as work with states that are helping to circumvent them.
"They are killing our people, and some states are enabling the sanctions to be circumvented. Absolutely different sectors – banking sector, non-banking sector, agricultural sector, energy sector, defence industry – a lot. And unfortunately, among very friendly states, there are those who do this. They understand what they are doing. They understand that our people are dying because of this. It seems to me that we need to address this not through their morals, but through the appropriate tools and appropriate countries – by uniting with one another, and pressing them economically," Zelenskyy added.
On Tuesday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated in Kyiv that in the 11th package of Russian sanctions, the European Commission proposes to add new import restrictions and toughen liability for circumventing sanctions.
