Friday, 12 May 2023

Italian media are reporting on receiving confirmation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Italy on May 13.

ANSA and Agencia Italia agencies report that the visit will take place on May 13, without specifying the official sources of the information.

On Saturday, Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the presidential palace. The time of the meeting is not disclosed for security reasons.

There is also a planned meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

According to Vatican sources, Zelenskyy may also meet with the Pope. No details have been disclosed yet.

Initially, Italian media reported, citing sources, that the Ukrainian president might visit Italy during a short trip to Germany (Ukr), where he is expected to be this weekend.

In April, Francis received Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. Zelenskyy himself was in the Vatican in February 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic.

Italy's Prime Minister, in turn, made her first visit to Ukraine in February 2023 to announce a military assistance package (Ukr) that includes SAMP/T-MAMBA complexes, as well as Spada and Skyguard systems.
