Orbán to Ukraine: "If You Want Money, Don't Sanctions Hungarian Companies"
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has commented on the Hungarian bank OTP Bank on the list of international war sponsors.
Commenting on Hungary's blocking of a new package of European Union sanctions against Ukraine and funds from the European Peace Fund, the Hungarian Prime Minister referred to it as a "matter of principle" and supported the position of Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs said it correctly. If a country like Ukraine wants to receive your financial support, which they consider inevitable, they cannot put your companies on the 'blacklist'," Orbán said in an interview with Bloomberg's editor in Qatar.
"If a country like Ukraine would like to get your financial support, if you need our money, please respect us and don't sanction our companies. That's all," Orbán added.
As it is known, Hungary has blocked another 500 million euro tranche from the European Peace Fund, which supports Ukraine with weapons. The reason is Ukraine declaring the Hungarian OTP Bank as a "war sponsor".
On Monday, Germany and Hungary argued during a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels over the bank's role in the Russian war.
Viktor Orbán in an interview with Bloomberg also stated that Ukraine is incapable of winning the aggressive war unleashed against it by Russia. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sharply criticised the statements made by the Hungarian Prime Minister.
