UK Foreign Secretary Visits US to Discuss Securing Ukraine's Victory
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly left for Washington on May 8 to meet US Secretary of State and leading members of Congress to discuss the US and UK's long-term commitment to Ukraine.
According to the press office, Cleverly will meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and leading Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
James Cleverly will stress the importance of a continued, united international front for ensuring a Ukrainian victory.
Cleverly will use his meetings to encourage the $1 trillion bilateral investment relationship between the UK and US, which is driving economic growth in both countries.
"Whether it's standing up for our friends in Ukraine, or promoting transatlantic prosperity through our $1 trillion investment relationship, the UK-US relationship continues to make life better for our people and the world," Cleverly commented.
On Tuesday James Cleverly will meet Secretary of State Antony Blinken and on Wednesday he will hold talks with leading Republican and Democrat members of Congress.
According to media reports, the UK appears ready to send long-range missiles to Kyiv, which the US President's administration had long refused.
Storm Shadows can be installed on Soviet-made Ukrainian jets. Such missiles can reach Russian territory. At the same time, Kyiv has promised the West that it will not use donated weapons to strike Russian territory.
At the same time, it became known that the United States would announce another $1.2 billion military aid package (Ukr) for Ukraine on Tuesday, 9 May 2023, which will be designed to meet Ukraine's long-term defence needs.
