Denmark Asks US to Help Train Ukrainian Pilots on F-16s
Denmark has asked the USA for help in training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
"The Netherlands and Denmark are in the lead, in terms of developing the training program for Ukrainian F-16 pilots… We have received a request from Denmark to support F-16 training, which would be expected," said Patrick Ryder, Spokesperson for US Department of Defense, during a briefing at the Pentagon.
The Pentagon representative said that this issue is currently under consideration.
The US Department of Defense expects that F-16 training will start "somewhere in Europe".
Ryder added that the US will cooperate with allies in conducting this training.
The issue of providing Ukraine with F-16 fighters was discussed at a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Ramstein-format meeting) last week.
After the meeting, it was revealed that by July, Ukraine's partners plan to approve a training programme for Ukrainian pilots, engineers and technicians on F-16 fighters, with the training taking place in a specially created centre in a European country.
