Future Disturbances in Russia Could Be Worse – Lithuanian President
President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, has stated that the attempted coup by the "Wagner Group" indicates that similar or even greater disturbances can be expected in Russia in the future.
As reported by LRTff, he made these remarks after his meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
"The events in Russia over the past weekend have demonstrated the instability of the Kremlin regime. We can expect similar or even greater challenges in the future," Nausėda noted.
He added that the events in Russia could impact the security situation in Lithuania and the region. The potential presence of the "Wagner Group" in Belarus will pose another challenge.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, also warned of the danger of such events recurring in Russia. He emphasised that the West should consider the risks associated with Russia's unpredictability while not being distracted from providing assistance to Ukraine.
Prior to this, Nausėda stated that NATO would need to strengthen its eastern border if Prigozhin and the "Wagner Group" ended up in Belarus.
