Orbán: Country at War Cannot Be NATO Member
Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, commenting on Ukraine's potential NATO accession, has stated that a country engaged in war cannot be a member of the Alliance.
Orbán was responding to questions in an interview with the German outlet Bild about whether Hungary would block Ukraine's accession to the Alliance when it is considered.
"I cannot say because it is clearly stated in the NATO treaty that those who are at war cannot be NATO members," said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
When asked directly if Ukraine could become a NATO member after the war, Orbán did not give a direct answer. "Let us discuss it," he said.
In the same interview, Orbán claimed that Ukraine is no longer a sovereign state as it has become dependent on Western support, particularly the will of the United States.
Orbán also stated that he considers the coup attempt by the private military company "Wagner" in Russia to be an unimportant event.
