Nausėda Said When Lithuania's NASAMS Systems Will Arrive in Ukraine
President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda has informed that the NASAMS systems, ordered by his country, will arrive in Ukraine in approximately three months.
As reported by LRT, Nauseda shared this information during a phone conversation with the BNS agency while in Kyiv.
After Lithuania announced its decision to purchase two NASAMS launcher systems for Ukraine, Nausėda stated that it was done without harming national security.
"We are glad that we were able to do this without any harm to our own security. In other words, all the NASAMS systems that were in Lithuania will remain in place," said the Lithuanian president.
The purchased systems, bought from the Norwegian company Kongsberg for 9.8 million euros, are expected to be in Ukraine within three months.
"It should be by late September, early October," Nausėda said.
Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested Lithuania to send the NASAMS medium-range air defenxe systems. However, the State Defence Council decided not to transfer the systems received in 2020, citing Lithuania's own defence needs.
The Ministry of National Defenсe of Lithuania also announced on Wednesday that the Ministry of Defence of Norway will make an additional contribution by providing auxiliary equipment for the NASAMS missile launchers.
As previously reported, Gitanas Nausėda expects to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the First Lady at the NATO summit and would be very surprised if it does not happen.
