Belgian Prime Minister: Coup Attempt in Russia Motivates EU to Continue Supporting Ukraine
The head of the Belgian government, Alexander De Croo, states that the Wagner Group coup attempt in Russia motivates the EU to continue supporting Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
"What we witnessed last weekend is an internal matter of Russia. It is something we do not interfere with. But it can only motivate us to continue supporting Ukraine," stated De Croo upon arriving for the second day of the EU summit in Brussels.
He assured that the EU will continue to assist Ukraine.
"We will make every effort to ensure that Ukraine wins this war. This means that discussions on security guarantees should take place here, in the EU, and in NATO," added the Belgian Prime Minister, emphasising the importance of the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius in July.
On Thursday, EU leaders adopted a statement expressing their readiness to contribute to future security commitments to Ukraine and to consider approaches to such a contribution.
The European Union also pledged to continue to work with other countries to ensure the widest possible international support for the key principles and objectives of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
