Germany May Reconsider Its Position on Modern Fighter Jets for Ukraine
The German government may review its position on the potential supply of advanced Western fighter jets to Ukraine.
"We are currently in a phase of reassessment and examining what is possible, and what we want and can do. I believe we will make a decision within the next two weeks," stated German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with DW.
According to Pistorius, Germany needs to reassess its policy of the past decades.
"German society and German politics have indeed changed their minds. If someone had told me two years ago that Germany would provide heavy weapons worth three to five billion euros, I wouldn't have believed it," added the German Defence Minister.
Previously, Pistorius stated that Germany was considering options to support a coalition of countries for training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. However, according to him, Berlin's potential contribution may be limited.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the German Air Force, Ingo Gerhartz, has stated that Germany might join the "fighter jet coalition," helping with infrastructure or training.
